歌詞の意味もわからず聴いていましたが、結構な暗喩がある歌ですね。
私の考えではこのホテルカリフォルニアは収容施設と言われた入所施設を指しているのではないかと推測します。
1969年にベトナム戦争から帰国し精神が崩壊した人が収容される場所。
一度入ったら二度と出ることはできないホテル。そこの無残さ、戦争の現実を歌っているのかな。
そのころから障害者入所施設（障害者を集めて収容しておけばよい）からの脱施設化がはじまり声を上げて、権利を勝ち取った歴史がある。
集まって何かすることが尊重される日本よりは
だいぶ進んだパーソナルなサービスが現在は行われている。
